UNDERSTANDING YOUR OPTIONS
Advice explained at every step.
Roof-mounted collectors with indoor storage. A configuration to assess with 300 or 500 L cylinders.
It supplements solar heating when sunshine is insufficient. The comfort you expect and any existing appliance guide the choice.
Method, assumptions and limitations
Requirement expressed at 40 °C. Equivalent storage volume = requirement × (40 − cold water temperature) / (storage temperature − cold water temperature). This conversion assumes ideal mixing; it models neither losses, reheating nor stratification. An indicative reserve of 25 % is applied to guide the choice of nominal capacity. This coefficient is an assumption used by this tool, not a BEMCO solar sizing rule.
The common guideline of 50 L/person/day is presented by Atlantic. The purpose of backup heating is explained by France Rénov’. The 35 and 70 L profiles are simulation scenarios.
The menu uses qualitative regional profiles: more variable in the north, cloud cover along the coast, sunny plains, winter precautions in the mountains, and high solar potential in the south. These groupings are an editorial simplification, not official zoning or a local measurement. They draw on theMASEN Solar Atlas and the AMEE climate zoning. No real-time weather data is connected. For flexible seasonal use, backup heating is recommended as a precaution in northern, mountain and unspecified areas; other areas may allow an option without an electric heater if variable availability is accepted. This rule is an advisory assumption of the tool. Orientation, shading, roof strength, frost, water quality and peak demand must be checked with the installer. The number of collectors, solar fraction and savings are not calculated here.
What solar water heater volume does your family need?
Choosing a 200 L or 300 L solar water heater depends on the household, habits and installation location. The BEMCO calculator estimates the storage requirement and guides you towards a rooftop thermosiphon or a forced-circulation solar system with an indoor cylinder. You can specify your region in Morocco using a menu.
Solar water heater with or without a heating element
The period of use and the comfort expected after several days with little sunshine guide the backup heating recommendation. BEMCO 200 and 300 L thermosiphon kits are available with an included heating element or without one, with the SR suffix. The tool helps you prepare this choice; collectors, storage and feasibility still need to be confirmed with the installer.
Practical answers to your questions
Thermosiphon or forced circulation: which should you choose?
A thermosiphon combines the tank and collectors on the roof. Forced circulation allows the cylinder to be installed indoors. The choice depends in particular on the location, requirements and project feasibility.
Does the calculator show guaranteed savings?
It helps you choose the system and volume. Actual savings depend on sunshine, use and installation; this tool does not quantify them.
